2020 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE AND POLICIES
It's been sad to see celebrations cancelled and how hard it's been on our wonderful customers to have their events affected. We understand the importance of keeping the public safe and send our best wishes to everyone to stay well in this chaotic time.
Given the ongoing changes with gathering restrictions, we are not taking deposits for the time being to make it easy for our customers to change. Also, the safety of your guests and our chefs are the most important thing, so we are asking our customers keep on top of the guidelines as you know your guests and layout of the property best. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to chat about the set-up, so we can ensure everyone stays well and fed.
DEPOSIT REFUNDS: If you have a party booked with us, you paid a deposit, and your event falls within a government enforced lock-down that bans gatherings, we will return your deposit via EFT, or we can hold your deposit for 12 months from your original date to reschedule. If your party falls outside outside a gathering ban, but during a time when only smaller parties are permitted (eg, 20 people), we will not be re-issuing refunds, but we can hold your deposit for up to 12 months from your original party date so you can reschedule. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EVENT? HOW DOES IT WORK?
It can vary, but a general overview of the event is:
We arrive at the venue to set up 40-60 minutes before the time you'd like to start serving the meal.
Our chef will check in with you, confirm place of set-up, and plug in the power.
We will prepare for service and will start making our delicious pizzas when you're ready.
We serve the entree, then we bring out the mains of your chosen menu on rotation, three (3) pizzas at a time until guests have stopped eating mains.
It takes around 10 minutes to prepare the equipment for the dessert pizzas, which are then served.
When all guests have finished eating and there are left overs, we pack-up and leave. The majority of our parties are last between 1 - 3 hours, depending on guest numbers and menu.
If you haven't paid in advance, the chef will approach you for the final payment.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
A designated table for us to place the pizzas.
Access to a power point. We bring a 20m extension lead to connect.
The equivalent of three car parking spaces for our equipment (5 x 7 metres is ideal) on firm, relatively flat space.
Access to a tap (outside preferred). During summer, we require a hose attached to comply with our RFS fire ban exemption.
CAN I REDUCE MY MENU TO ONE OR TWO COURSES?
Yes! We are happy to adapt our menu and do less courses for you. For corporate lunches, we find dropping the entrees is a good way to compact the service time. People still eat the same number of pizzas, but they dig straight into the mains.
The prices for removing a course are:
Two courses with no dessert: $1 discount per head.
Two courses with no entrée: No discount (same as three courses)
One course: Mains only: $1 discount per head
WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?
(Please note, during COVID-19 restrictions, we are staying within Sydney metro, which is the area between Palm Beach and Cronulla to Camden and Kurrajong. Outside restriction periods, for large parties of 100 people or more we may travel to Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast for an additional travel fee. It's not always possible if we have other bookings we have that day, so these parties will need to be booked with plenty of notice.
WHEN DO YOU ARRIVE TO SET UP?
We arrive at the venue 30-45 minutes before the event to set up. Then, the first pizzas, usually entrée, are served at your allocated time. For example, if you have a 7:00pm function, we arrive at the venue between 6:15 - 6:30 with the first pizzas being served fresh and hot at 7:00.
DO YOU HAVE A TIME LIMIT?
Yes and no. When you book Pizza Alfresco, you have us until your guests have stopped eating and there are left over pizzas - which for most functions is 1 to 3 hours. While other pizza catering services have a time limit of 3 hours, we are flexible according to your needs. If you're having an all-nighter, we leave you with some for later.
IS THERE A MINIMUM PRICING PER PARTY?
Yes, there is a minimum pizza order per party (excluding sides):
SATURDAY NIGHT - $1300
All guest numbers up to 65 for Traditional Menu (less guests for Half/Half or Gourmet) will be $1300. For example, 50 guests is $1300, 65 guests is $1300, but 75 guests is $1500.
ALL OTHER TIMES - $900
All guest numbers up to 45 on Traditional Menu (less guests for Half/Half or Gourmet) will be $900. For example, 35 guests is $900, 45 guests is $900, but 50 guests is $1000.
OUR BACKYARD HAS NO DRIVE TROUGH ACCESS. CAN I STILL BOOK YOU?
Absolutely. We can set up in the front yard or on the street and carry the pizzas to the party. Most of our parties are catered from the front of the house. We can only cater from backyards if it has clear vehicle access. We cannot carry the oven as it is strapped to a trailer and weighs almost 2-tonne. It is up to the customer to check our equipment can fit.
HOW MUCH SPACE DOES YOUR EQUIPMENT NEED?
Ideally, a space of 7 metres x 5 metres will fit all our equipment. We have a truck, the trailer (2 metres wide and 2.3 metres high) with the oven, and a marquee beside the trailer which covers the preparation tables.
Please note: the oven is heavy and may sink if taken onto a soft surface; therefore, pavement is preferred.
HOW DO I SECURE THE BOOKING?
During the gathering restrictions and until further notice, securing the booking requires a response in writing to our confirmation. Outside the gathering restriction periods, we require a $200 non-refundable deposit which we can take via credit card (+ 1.3% surcharge) or via EFT (no surcharge). This deposit is taken off the final amount. Should you cancel your booking, the money is not refunded; however, if you change your booking date, the deposit will be moved to the other day.
DO YOU CATER FOR HALAL, GLUTEN-FREE OR OTHER DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
Yes. Our menu is flexible for those with dietary requirements - some may have a cost. Please see our Menu and Pricing page. We request those with dietary requirements place their order directly with the chef, then wait beside the oven until it's complete. That way they get it piping hot and fresh. NOTE: there will be traces of gluten, nuts and eggs. While all care will be taken, please be aware there may be some included. For gluten free, we order the bases from a certified gluten-free bakery. However, there will be traces of flour on equipment and oven; this is unavoidable. Please consider alternative arrangements for guests who experience severe reactions to gluten.
HOW MANY CHEFS COME TO OUR EVENT?
It depends on the size and layout of your function, but for events of 30+ guests, two professional and friendly pizza chefs will be attending your function. One will bring the pizzas to the designated table and of the other stays with the oven, ensuring your pizzas are coming out delicious and fast. If you have lots of guests, we may provide three chefs, or if your event is tiny, we may provide one. In any event (excuse the pun), you can be guaranteed a quick and delicious service.
HOW MANY OVENS COME TO THE PARTY?
One oven comes to your event with either one or two chefs. However, if you have a lot of guests that need feeding quickly, we can bring a second oven for an extra $500. Be sure to book this well in advance to make sure both ovens are available.
DO YOU USE ROLLERS FOR THE PIZZA BASES?
No. Our pizzas are made completely from scratch, including the dough, with our chefs authentically hand-forming and tossing the bases immediately before topping and cooking. This stops the air from being pushed out of the dough which creates a hard flat base. Our pizzas are authentic, just the way they make them in Naples.
DO YOU SERVE PIZZAS TO OUR GUESTS?
Not in the standard packages. For most events, you will have two chefs: one will stay with the oven and cook, and one chef will cut, then serve the pizzas to a designated table. We've found a buffet-style works the best with ensuring everyone gets fed in a timely manner.
DO YOU SUPPLY PLATES, SERVIETTES OR CUTLERY?
Yes. We supply white, environmentally friendly and sustainably-sourced sugar cane pulp plates and serviettes. Not only are they better for the environment, but they are easier to clean up than plastic!
DO GUESTS SELECT THEIR PIZZAS?
Yes and no. We make all the pizzas from the selected menu so your guests can try a slice of everything. If you find a particular pizza is popular, let our chefs know and they'll make more. Good news is we can make small changes to the pizza menu before your function, so be sure to bring it up any changes at your time of booking.
HOW CAN I ENSURE MY GUESTS ARE SAFE FROM FOOD BORNE-ILLNESS?
This is extremely important! We refrigerate our ingredients from time of purchase until it is used. We have a refrigerated transport van, a fridge attached to the oven trailer and a refrigerated pizza ingredients bar. We have seen many mobile pizza businesses use plastic containers placed on ice, which is unacceptable. We are also fully insured for product and public liability.
WHAT FUNCTIONS TO YOU CATER?
Most of our parties are private at people's homes, but we also do lots of corporate functions and work events. We also do all types of parties: hens', bachelor, birthday, weddings, christenings and more.
DO YOU NEED ELECTRICITY OR WATER?
We definitely require electricity. We will supply all power cables for electricity supply within 20 metres of source. If there is no power source within 20 metres, please let us know so that we can bring a generator ($50). The power source is to run our lighting and refrigeration, which is imperative for food safety.
Access to water is helpful, although we do bring our own just in case.
WHERE IS YOUR FOOD PREPARED?
We have a professional factory set-up with a commercial-grade kitchen which is where the ingredients for your event are prepared. We follow all Food Safety requirements, as necessary to hold our certification.
